I can’t imagine this being a difficult accomplishment. As many of you have said, and all of us have noticed #Calexit has a huge amount of support. If our two groups support, and push for one another then we both stand a better chance. This isn’t a Bio-regional issue, it’s a human one. We western states are blue for a reason, and that reason is we see the value in diversity and equality. Merging together would simply exemplify that and show the world we are serious about our stance on progressive issues.

But I’m not against merging with California, it’s just not a critical decision at this time. We need both YesCalifornia and YesCascadia to mutually help each other to make this happen. We need to start state initiatives that shepherd us closer to this reality, such as spliting western vs eastern WA and OR, then merging. Or just merging WA and OR into one state.

California has a culture too different from Cascadia. California will make a great political and economic ally.

Washington and Oregon should merge. This could be achieved through a state initiative in 2020. Then, after those years of media and political attention throughout the campaign and the growing-up of the younger generations, we push for independence in 2024.

I’m a rural Oregonian with more ties to WA than CA. But to paraphrase LBJ: I’d rather have California inside our tent pissing out than outside our tent pissing in – especially when we have to deal with opposition from the Union, in whatever forms that could take. California brings a lot of clout to the negotiating table.

I can also see economic and strategic upsides to sharing a land border with Mexico.

Let’s not overlook California’s raw enthusiasm in protesting Trump and the direction he’s threatening to take America. Seattle and Portland have rock-solid protest game, but my hat still goes off to Oakland’s contributions starting 11/8 forward. Oakland does not fuck about.

Let’s also not forget that Callenbach’s spec-fictional Ecotopia, the primary inspiration for a Cascadian nation, stretched down to San Francisco. Northern California’s more like us than they’re like the rest of America. SoCal has its infrastructural problems, but we can help with those.

I think not only would they be a good state for a Western Nation but if we based ourselves off the original states where each state was it’s own nation only working together for the common defense of each other against foreign invaders then i would totally agree with joining them. The more of us that stand together the easier it will be to be recognized and respected by the rest of the world and the less likely the United States (what’s left of it) decides it’s worth a military engagement with us.

California (especially Southern) is ecologically and culturally very different from Cascadia. I think they are good allies for secession, but I think they should be their own nation.

Considering the momentum Calexit is getting, this seems to be one of the best ways to get something done.

This would be a decent idea, but I think the best way to join California and Cascadia would be to have three nations within one – Cascadia, Northern California, and Southern California.
